Top 2 New Social Media Platforms Marketers Should Watch in 2021

The term social media is nothing new to us. Almost every one of us is connected to social media accounts nowadays. Social media has helped many companies to expand and has helped them to promote their presence online. It has also helped many businesses and people to communicate with each other easily. It also helps to handle customer questions and handle customer queries directly and faster. It also helps marketing products or services on a large scale without paying any charges for the advertisement.  Social media engagements and audience growth are the main focus use when it comes to businesses.

When you visit the App Store or Play Store and search for “Social Media” there are hundreds of them.  But as the number of social media keeps on rising, it’s a game to see who wins and who loses and who is really helpful for the Marketers. No doubt humans can adapt to changes easily and we have already accepted many new social media, similarly, we have abundant also many new social media abruptly.

In 2018, the lip-syncing app popularly known as Musical.ly merged with a similar one-year-old app called TikTok. Since then, TikTok has reached 689 million active monthly users. With nearly 2 billion global downloads, TikTok is now more popular in app stores and has more downloads than Facebook, Instagram, and other well-known social media platforms.

For those that remember Vine or Musical.ly, TikTok is sort of a mixture of both of these. The platform allows you to film short videos that play on a repetitive loop similar to Vine. But, like Musical.ly or Snapchat, you can add fun effects, AR filters, text, etc Like similar video platforms. Once you create a video, the app also allows you to boost it by adding hashtags and makes it easier to find out via search. One way hashtags are adapting on TikTok is through its “Challenges” tab. When you post a video that responds to a challenge, you’ll be included in the corresponding hashtag so those following the challenge will be able to see your videos. Apart from being fun and entertaining, TikTok is also helping the business in many ways She said that more brands are on the platform, adding that, “The Washington Post is on TikTok and are pretty popular too.”

Brands like Guess have also entered TikTok and started to experiment with it. To feature its new line of denim clothing, Guess launched the #inMyDenim challenge encouraging users to publish videos of themselves wearing Guess denim with Bebe Rexha’s song, “I’m a Mess.” playing in the background.

You might not want to focus all of your social media resources on TikTok just yet, it’s a great time to habituate yourself with the app and start experimenting with a few fun videos. You could also try to implement a few challenges or video ideas that could match well with your brand and the platform’s young audience. If you see any brands that are similar to your business, try to follow them for some added inspiration.

2 – Clubhouse

  • Number of Users – 10 million weekly active users (as per Google)

Unlike traditional social media sites Facebook or Twitter which provide a platform for communicating and sharing content, Clubhouse gasp synchronous, audio-only connectivity between the audience and the speakers. It’s not as similar as a podcast, but a more personal one and allows you to share information with your audience who can talk back to you in real-time. You might be thinking “What is the actual work that happens in Clubhouse?” And the answer is it’s a little bit of everything. It includes topics like starting a business from top VCs, relationship discussions hosted by various celebrities, and even comedy clubs all find their way in front of live audiences.

Now the question “How can Clubhouse work for marketers and brands?” Now that’s yet to be determined, but professionals are doing the experiment on it. The race to crack the code on Clubhouse is a fast one as content creators are building their audiences quickly in hopes of securing monetization opportunities when they become available.
